Wesley Leon Thomas known
locally as Bat-eye was born in St. Andrew's, Grenada on November 26, 1964.
He attended the Grenada Boys Secondary School (GBSS) and helped them win
many titles in both Cricket and Football.
Thomas came from a cricketing family, his brothers Franklyn Fredricks, Evelyn Fredricks, Daniel Fredricks and Dennison Thomas all representing Grenada at the Senior cricket level, with Dennison going on to play for the Windwards. Wesley Thomas was a lively medium fast bowler and hard hitting right hand batsman. He represented Grenada and the Windward Islands at both youth and senior cricket. Thomas played professional cricket for Blaydon in Tynedale senior league in England scoring 11,621 runs and taking 855 wickets, including 10 wicket for 27 runs (with a hat-trick) and 215 not out as his best performance. |
| He represented the Windward Islands from 1985 to 1993, making his debut in
St. Vincent against Guyana. He played 21 matches scoring 418 runs with 69
against Trinidad in Grenada his highest. He took 11 catches, 46 wickets
with 4 for 63 in Dominica against Trinidad his best. Wesley Thomas also represented the Grenada National Football team at regional and international level. In 1993 whilst playing professional cricket in England Thomas was diagnosed with liver cancer. He returned to his homeland Grenada where he lived until his death on February 1, 1994.
