

Theophilus Augustus Redhead was born in St. George's, Grenada on August 8, 1930. He was and outstanding Cricketer, Footballer and Calypsion.
Theo Redhead captained Grenada at cricket and football and represented the Windward Islands and the Combined Islands as an effective hard-hitting batsman, excellent fielder and fast-medium bowler, with clever change of pace at a time when their first class appearances were limited. He represented Grenada in Windward Islands' Cork Cup tournament between 1955 and 1970.
Redhead resided in England in the late1960's where he played club cricket. He represent the Windward Islands against the MCC on it's 1960 tour of the West Indies, at the Queen's Park in St. George's where he put on an outstanding performance. Redhead had figures of 14.5 overs 2 maidens 39 runs and took 5 wickets. He clean bowled four English batsmen including Colin Cowdrey and Ken Barrington, as the MCC were routed for 121.
Known in the calypso world as the Mighty Papitette, Redhead won the Grenada National Calypso crown in 1960 and 1964 and won the road march three times.
Alter a long illness, Redhead died on August 27, 1993 in St. George's. Thousands attended his funeral at the St. George's Roman Catholic Church. In attendance were his former Windward Islands teammate, fast bowler F.O. Mason of St. Vincent, representing the Windward Islands Cricket Board.
Theophilus Augustus (Papitette) Redhead has laid the foundation for people like Junior Murray, Rawle Lewis, King Ajamu, Black Wizard and others to reach the level that he never had the opportunity. A true son of the soil, he will always be remembered.
